No Body Like Mine (Part 5)

What went wrong again??? Sophie started having muddy stools 3 times a day. Although it beats having hard, pallet-like stools, it affected her mood as she felt bouts of wind in her tummy. I repeated whatever I did the last time but nothing worked. I took her back to Dr Koh, who told me to continue what I was doing. I insisted more to be done, so he suggested sending her stools to the lab.

I put Sophie in my parents' care and rushed to Mt Alvenia with her stool sample. The results came back negative on rotavirus and culture. So, it meant that nothing was wrong with her stools... so what the hell was wrong? Why was she having diarrhea? Dr Koh told me not to see him, just monitor the situation if Sophie looked alert and well. Huh????

Out of desperation, I took Sophie to see a TCM sinseh. The lady physician said that Sophie has weak stomach and spleen, and send us back with some mysterious powder in packets. She said Sophie's diarrhea would stop in 2 days. Wah, such confidence...

The next day, Sophie's stools were perfect. It has been quite good since then. I am losing confidence in western medicine...

East Coast Beach

We had lunch at City Hall... one of the Chinese restaurants in the basement... as you can see, I do not really care much about where I eat... so long as Sophie is happy... (then we can actually eat!)

We decided to get some Subway dinner and head for East Coast Park for a stroll and sea breeze. Sophie had never seen the ocean before, but she did not look very thrilled...

So hard to take a family picture with Sophie moving around...

Finally, we got the picture... or shall I say we gave up?

Byebye Araya...

Araya, papa's colleague, had resigned from SCB and got a job back home in Bangkok. She loves kids and babies; so mama and Sophie were invited to her farewell party although Sophie was still having her diarrhea. As usual, Sophie was "passed around" and she totally enjoyed the attention. And when it was time to drink her milk and change her diapers, Sophie got the privilege of using Araya's bed...where she fell in love with her Harrod's teddy bears.

Sophie Girl

Dave, Sophie's godfather, bought her a very girly dress with matching hair band, and socks. As he is currently in Ghana, I took a picture of Sophie in "full gear" and emailed him (partly because she can barely fit into the dress now). To my pleasant surprise, Sophie actually looks very pretty. I have always thought of her as tomboyish and for comfort and convenience, I let her wear rumpers most of the time.

This made me realise that Sophie is actually a pretty little girl and I should get her more dresses. Just because her mama is not much of a dresser does not mean she should be deprived so I digged up a dress I had bought. Opps... maybe I should go slow...

Sophie's Laughter (vu_ut_vu_ut)

Sophie loves to grin, giggle, chuckle and laugh out loud, and papa loves to make her laugh.... When Sophie was still inside me, papa would place her ear at my tummy to listen to her heartbeat. He told me it sounded like "vu_ut_vu_ut"; maybe Sophie can remember...

No Body Like Mine (Part 4)

Come on, what else could happen? Better start weaning... Sophie had a lot of catching up to do... So I fed her everything recommended in a book I had bought earlier. Sophie enjoyed new tastes and feeding her was a joy... but the aftermath was not so pleasant. Sophie's stools were so hard and pallet-like that her anus tore during her bowel movements. As a result, she kinda developed a phobia and held back her stools, thus trapping herself in a vicious cycle of hard stools and pain.

Again, I took her to Dr Vella and Dr Koh. They told me to feed fruit and water. They told me to cut down on the soy milk and give her cow's milk. They gave me some cream. Nothing worked. For a month, she kept having pallet-like stools 3 times a day. Her anus looked raw as her skin were coming off. Finally, Dr Lillian prescribed some stool softener for Sophie and it worked. For the next week, Sophie had beautiful, soft stools only once a day.
