Puppet Making With Sesame Street Puppeteer John E. Kennedy

Thanks to Uncle Andy, we got to know about this particular puppet making workshop. Even though I am not an ardent fan of Sesame Street, I am still very excited to meet someone who has worked with the legendary Jim Henson. Of course, Sophie only knows a few famous and popular characters like Elmo, Big Bird and Cookie Monster.

Thus early in the morning, we set off for breakfast at McDonalds (City Hall) before taking a walk to The Arts House. By the time we reached there around 10.30am, Alfee was already asleep. So we took a look at the art exhibition put up by The Art Zone and got quite inspired... at least I was.

The workshop was pretty cool although I thought it could have been a little shorter. The sock puppet dog kit is rather well put together. We still have to share scissors and glue but it was alright. Most importantly, Sophie had fun and all the kids got to do a little puppet performance with Mr Kennedy.

Think I might buy his book... I must say I was inspired by his personal story about how he ends up with such a career. He was a young child when he got first exposed to Sesame Street on TV. And from then on, he started making his own puppets and making them work, with expressions, movements and performance. It was this inner motivation and passion that drove him to work for Jim Henson eventually. I hope my kids will discover their own passion and be driven to do whatever they want in life!

  1. It's okay, not great but the kids seemed to like it!
