Our first excursion for the year - Chinatown. Time flies so quickly... Sophie's in K2 and now we (parents) no longer have priority in the bus during excursion. I couldn't join her in the bus there because there were some K1 parents who wished to tag along. I had to make my own way there. This morning, Papa dropped me at the MRT station after sending Sophie to school.
It wasn't hard to go there although it took me a while to find the school kids. There were many preschoolers from different schools there this morning. As a formal teacher, I could tell easily if the trip was well planned or not. Some schools were there very early and none of the stalls were opened yet. Some school teachers tried to point out the Chinese New Year elements but they didn't sound very convincing. Some just looked lost.
Sophie's teachers were not very good in crowd control but they didn't have to be. Our group had the most parent volunteers to help around. They had a list of items (with pictures) to check against if the kids came across them. And they had a shopping list to buy some goodies for the kids to try out in school on Friday, during their CNY celebrations. Overall, it was quite an experience for the kids.
I have never quite visited Chinatown during this festive period because I am crowd aversive. I find it too stressful. However, I do recognise that at some point, I would need to take my kids there for a bit of culture immersion.
