School Theme - Sea Creatures 1

Today is Youth Day so Sophie would officially start school tomorrow. The theme for the next two weeks is "sea creatures" so I took the opportunity to synchronise with them. We started out with reading whatever books we have on sea creatures. One of them is Mister Seahorse by Eric Carle, which is one of her favourites. She loves the transparency pages and she can name all the creatures in the corresponding pages. I thought about making a lapbook but there are many creatures to cover and we only have two weeks.

Next we read Fish Wish by Bob Barner which introduces readers to the colourful underwater world (coral reef, dolphins, sea turtles, octopus, squid, jellyfish, sea horses, shrimps, crabs, sea anemone, and starfish) from the perspective of a clownfish. We also read Fidgety Fish And Friends by Paul Bright and The Magic Fish by Freya Littledale. I am hoping to read her A House For Hermit Crab by Eric Carle too, but I do not have the book yet.

We also made some handprint jellyfish using a mixture of white glue, shaving cream and white paint. These are part of our "G" based activities (Ghosts). Actually, I never intended to make them but they reminded me of jellyfish so I would save them for the sea creature mobile we are making later this week.
