Tomorrow, Alfee would have to do a follow-up test, micturating cystourethrograms (MCU), to determine if he has vesicoureteric reflux and if so, its severity. This particular test can also detect other structural abnormalities of the renal tract. So far, he has already done an ultrasound test for his kidneys and bladder. They seem fine, not enlarged or abnormal. And he is still on prophylactic antibiotics, partly in preparation for the MCU. I am praying that Alfee would cry very little during the procedure and there would be no complications, not even slight dysuria or mild haematuria.
I am scared that he really has a reflux problem. It would mean long term antibiotics and frequent MCU (every six months) until he outgrows the condition. If he does not, he has to undergo surgery to correct the abnormality. Even when he clears his test tomorrow, we might have to circumcise him so that the chances of recurrence of UTI is reduced. So much to bear for a little fellow… Not exactly how I want to start the year.
