Taiwan - Day 5

We woke up with reluctance. Sophie was still feverish and lethargic. We had to keep the kids apart but it was much harder when we were all stuck in the hotel room, despite its size. We took a very leisurely breakfast before taking Sophie to the local clinic to get her condition checked. Besides her high fever, she was also coughing and her runny nose made it hard for her to breath in the cold.

We found a clinic and registered her. After some examining, the doctor concluded that she had caught a flu bug. Her condition wasn't too bad and since we had all the possible medication we could give her, he didn't prescribe her anything more. In fact, to simplify matters, he de-registered her so that he could waive the consultation as well. Pretty good ethics...

By the time we make it back to the hotel, it was lunch time. Yes, if we were on holiday on our own... our time would be leisurely and relaxed. There wouldn't be rushing around or long rides in any vehicles unless they were napping. We aren't Type A people and we are too concern about making our holiday time worth our money or vice versa.

We could have lunch near the clinic, but we choose to go back to the hotel restaurant because there wasn't any crowd there and it was relatively fuss-free and pleasant. We told the rest we would be sleeping in since Sophie was feverish. We would join them again once she was better, perhaps at dinner.

Meanwhile back at the hotel room, both kids were happily watching TV while CK and I washed the dirty clothes. We still have problem washing off the vomit but that was minor compared to the problem of drying those clothes we had washed. We had 2-3 bags of wet clothes which stubbornly refused to dry. There was also no laundry service in the hotel. In the end, the staff helped us send the clothes to a nearby laundry shop to dry.

By dinner, Sophie was much better. Her fever was low grade and she was less moody. We went out for dinner with the rest. Actually, we just went next door, another bed and breakfast place, for their dinner. We ate some fruit dishes which tasted rather unique. Unfortunately, the kids didn't appreciate much of those dishes. They were surviving on eggs and rice.

After dinner, Sophie asked for a short walk before heading back to the hotel. Ah Gong and Ah Mah went back first because Ah Mah was tired from the day's activities. We went with my brother and his family. Though awkward (we weren't always in good terms throughout our childhood and adolescence), we enjoyed the walk.

We learnt how to throw a traditional top and got coaxed into buying one for each of the kids. Sophie bought one with Hello Kitty Design while Alfee got his Angry Bird finally! Sadly, I have forgotten how to do it when I got back here.

By the time we got back to the hotel, Sophie's more or less back to her usual temperature. However, we still kept monitoring her because the fever might come back in low grade. In my heart, I was quite worried that Alfee would be next to fall ill. After all, we all had a turn and he was so close to us all... So unfortunate that viral fever like Sophie's was just the tip of our misfortune iceberg.
