Sophie has been in ballet since beginning of last year. The showcase then was a disaster by our standards. She was totally unfocused and reluctant to carry out the steps and dance with others. SHe was in her own world, disturbing others as well. Both Papa and I were trying very hard not to show our dismay and embarrassment then.
This year, I lowered my expectations. Papa didn't take leave to watch her perform because he has to clear work before the holidays. I was almost afraid to see her in class. I let her join ballet purely because she enjoys it so I don't actually track her progress.
I was pleasantly surprised to see her dance today. Although she wasn't doing her best and her moves weren't fantastic, she could actually dance! I almost teared! Seriously, she has never shown me those steps before so this was the first time I watched her.
Towards the end, she ran to me and asked me excitedly, ''Did you see me do the mouse position?'' and I said, "YES!". She then rewarded me with a wide grin before running back to join her friends. I'm so proud of her...
