I asked my cousin who is a Malaysian to order some Chinese readers from Pelangi. I thought it would be much easier and cheaper to buy it from the publisher directly, after having quite a hard time searching for complete sets at Popular. Of all the branches, only the one at Bras Basah carrys most of the titles.
One of the series that I have bought is the 快乐列车-红车厢. I am quite neutral towards them but Sophie loves the books. She would pick out the books for me to read almost every night before bedtime. In fact, she enjoys the short, simple and purposeful stories much better than the Tip Top (New Edition) Chinese Readers or Mandarin Joy Readers from EdVenture Books. My cousin also helped me to order the 《小果果故事集》青苹果系列 and the 《小果果故事集》小蓝莓系列; both which I have not really introduced to Sophie yet.
I must admit, I regretted buying the Mandarin Joy Readers although they were only on 70% discount. Apparently, the discount was applicable only for the 18 remaining readers from the complete set. To buy the complete set, you have to pay a lot more (10% + 10% for members) and it depends on availability. The same goes to the English Joy Readers, the complete set will cost over $250, if you do not mind rusty staples. In the end, I bought the incomplete English Joy Readers (30 books) for 50% discount.
