So after breakfast and before her shower, I took out the a "fish" sponge and let Sophie paint with it, using only the colour "red". I managed to get her to repeat "red" after me, but I doubt the concept was learnt at all. Nevertheless, she was stamping happily on the drawing paper, with the fish shapes and chameleons already drawn by me, and that was good enough for me. The main idea was the red chameleon puppet but the fish seemed more exciting to make though...
I thought about how much she likes the fish at Naenae's place. So, why not make a fish tank then? And that took us the rest of the day to complete...
While she was taking her afternoon nap, I dug out a cardboard and drew a fish tank using markers. Then I found the brown a little disturbing, so I painted it white... After that, I cut out the fish Sophie did earlier and pasted plastic eyes on them. Next, I cut out some coral-like seaweed from a green corrugated paper and tore some tissue paper for the water and green plants. So all Sophie had to do was to put everything together... Not forgetting the glitter glue, after all, they are goldfish and water sparkles, doesn't it? Well... All I can say is... it was not a pretty sight! Sorry, my hands were all glued with tissue paper so I could not take any video clips.
There you go, Sophie, Good job!!Finally hear you utter "red", and "fish"...."fish" is easier concept, and as for "red" -got to make sure she knows the concept and not just the word. Don't worry, Sophie, you will grasp the concept soon.
ReplyDeletevery much doubt that she knows "red"... I also realise it's really nt easy to grasp colours. And I dun remember learning abt them either wen I was young. Very intrinsically learnt... how did it happen? I can vaguely recall learning numbers and letters, but nt colours at all (except the teo chew equivalent of pink).
ReplyDeleteYa, color is a hard concept to grasp, and that's why I don't believe in repetition of words as it will not form concept. I would rather a child point the right color/word than to repeat the color/word. It's o.k. to me if Ethan is not able to vocalize the word yet as long as he forms concept in his mind, and the word will come later.
ReplyDeleteI also don't remember exactly when I learned numbers, letters, shapes or colors...maybe when enter Pr. 1 bah ...Don't think we learned all these at this young age...maybe we belong to the kiasu generations ....haaa...
