I Am Learning - Playdoh And Rhymes

I let Sophie try playdoh for the first time. I was a little hesitant because she tends to eat everything in her hands. And true enough, she tried to "kiss" and ate some playdoh. I hope it is really non-toxic...

I was so tickled when Sophie suddenly called her "creation" a cat. She even started talking to it like how the children talk to their art pieces in "Art Time" we watched on TV. Then I thought I should try my luck to see if she could tell me the colour of the playdoh... Nope, still nothing from her...

So off we went with our bedtime routine. After her shower, she was her usual "I-wanna-walk-around-while-you-dress-me" self. However, she suddenly showed some interest in her table and started tapping on its corner and smiling at me. I made a wild guess and began drumming on it and chanting our rhyme about her red table. Then she pointed at her chair and uttered "chair" which got me chanting our "chair" rhyme. And when I asked her where her stool was, she pointed to it and said "stool".

YES! YES! YES! I made up the silly rhymes a week ago in hope to teach her "table", "chair" and "stool". I chanted them to her a couple of times that day and forgot all about it when she could not identify any of the items. But she has learnt the words somehow... Although she could not say "table", she knows exactly what it is. And so, I asked Papa to record the rhyme after she fell asleep. That, is the highlight of the day...

  1. yes,yes...good job!! Actually it's o.k. that children do not know the words yet ....as long as they hear you say the word, they will internalise them, and words will come later ....good job, Sophie!!! She will be naming the objects really soon .....haaa...love your chant .....haaa....very funny chant....but as long as our children learn, parents don't mind to be a clown ....I am just a clown to Ethan, and he loves it...haaa....keep working...
