I am still doing A Color Of His Own by Leo Lionni with Sophie. I wanted to tap on the colour changing quality of chameleons to introduce basic colours to her. So, we did a green chameleon and 5 origami frogs. Fortunately, I have a book on origami for reference because I had no idea how to fold a frog.
I let Sophie try using different ways of applying green paint onto the pieces of papers. I would be folding her paper into frogs later. Of course she is far too young to do origami, but I ought to be teaching her basic folding soon (haha... then she can fold clothes for me!). Anyway, she was quite proficient in dot painting although she still got distracted once in a while.
This was Sophie's first try with brushes like that, I think. She was jabbing the brush but I guess it would be a matter of time before she sweeps it across to apply paint.
The roller was a bit difficult for Sophie so I showed her how it could be used. She liked the pattern it made on the paper, apparently... she chuckled when we did it. I found the prints quite nice also.
After painting in so many different ways, the sponge seemed a little boring for Sophie. Still, she stamped happily and completed her task. Her fascination with the plate helped, of course. In fact, she seemed a lot more stable and her attention span was much longer than before...
In the afternoon, when all the glue was nice and dry... we started playing with the "frogs". Sophie uttered "frog" with a strange accent, but it was alright. Alas, the colour "green" was not learnt at all. Well, we shall try again using other ways then.
End Product - Green Chameleon Puppet
End Product - Prototype Origami Frog
It's o.k. ...at least Sophie sees "green" and concept is formed gradually with consistent exposure...so give her some time to grasp the concept ...Good job, Sophie...love your froggy : )
