I asked Ah Gong for some string (kite string) so he gave me the whole roll of it. As I was struggling to string the bells on, we had the following conversations (in teochew of course)...

Mama : ... your string should be strong enough hor...
Ah Gong : ...your cardboard breaks, the string also won't break...
Mama (dagger eye glare)
Ah Gong (grinning)

... then when I finally finished it...

Ah Gong : I give you three days... it will last...
Mama : Hah! You give it three days... I'm happy if it can last ONE day!
