Scribble Art

Children begin their artistic expression with scribbling or mark-making (moving a crayon or marker across a surface to leave a mark) typically around 18 mths old. However, nowadays children are learning things at a much faster pace. Sophie seems to enjoy swinging her arms back and forth with markers and crayons (like a conductor) and creating random marks on her drawing paper (and everywhere actually... especially her own face and clothes).

Apparently, there are 20 basic scribbles...
  1. dot
  2. single vertical line
  3. single horizontal line
  4. single diagonal line
  5. single curved line
  6. multiple verttical line
  7. multiple horizontal line
  8. multiple diagonal line
  9. multiple curved line
  10. roving open line
  11. roving enclosed line
  12. zigzag or wavy line
  13. single loop line
  14. multiple loop line
  15. spiral line
  16. multiple line overlaid circle
  17. multiple line circumference circle
  18. circular line, spread out
  19. single crossed line
  20. imperfect circle
