Feelings Good

I would not claim credit for teaching Sophie about facial expressions and their corresponding emotions. Papa has somehow taught her to express “happiness”, “sadness”, “shyness”, “surprise” and “sleepiness” (not an emotion, but what fun!) through facial expression and hand gestures. He did that without knowing how valuable and important those expressions can potentially be. I bet that is how she can identify other people’s feelings and show empathy.

As we play more of such games and suggest ways to deal with the emotions, we are actually helping her understand that emotions (good and bad) are normal and teaching her how to express them in words and facial expression. Hopefully she will also learn to manage her emotions and develop empathy for others.

  2. It's so great that she is already learning about expressions and emotions. I love that her dad taught her - that's great! Good post!
