Letter Of The Week - "W" For Weasel

This was definitely not my idea of a good start. Sophie wailed like a banshee for me to set up her art materials, but her interest died the moment I put her on her highchair. She was clearly not in the mood for cooperation.

In hope that she might eventually regain her enthusiasm, I kept my cool and continued the activity with her. However, my patience also “died” when she started playing with her scissors quite dangerously.

I thought the dot paint bottles would distract her and maybe drew her back to the activity. Yes, I was THAT optimistic. And unfortunately, also THAT wrong. I decided to give up. Perhaps, she found it boring and preferred to do something else. Maybe she was sick of doing letters week after week. I cannot tell.

As much as I would like Sophie to do this herself, I knew we would end up driving each other up the wall... So, I finished off the weasel for her. Apart from that, she was still unable to say the letter "W" although she could point to it when asked.

Overall a discouraging start of the week for us. Papa said that my expectations of her is now higher so I get disappointed easier and more often. He pointed out that I would have realised how much Sophie has improved in terms of her attention span, motor skills and independence if only I had gone back to read our old blog entries. He also added that Sophie is developing a mind of her own and she is trying to be assertive so I should let her be. And I have to say he may be right. I am glad that, unlike many others, Papa does not think Sophie is still too young to do anything properly anyway and I am just asking too much of her.

  1. i agree with ck. Sophie is indeed good for her age. Some kids dont even match the skills at that age appropriate stage. Most impt is for u to bond with her and learning will come with it.
I tot a good suggestion would be to find the talent she have. Like Xiaoci is into art. Next time can use her strength to get direct sch admission to a good sec sch. haha.i kiasu la.

  3. yah i remember her! the thing is... i feel NAFA teaches art in a v structured and disciplined way (like rules?) and I dun really tink tis gud for promoting creativity. On the other hand, it is VERY recognised and the end product is VERY accepted as "good" and "award winning".

There are many private small schools which allows children to express more freely... but their training may not be so conventional.

Dunman High har? I think I should send her to NAFA too! hahahaha
