It's time for us to get a proper piano for Sophie. She has been playing on a keyboard since 3.5 years old. Although her progress isn't too impressive, her interest and persistence are admirable nevertheless. I remember how she was initially... very resistant and reluctant to try because of her fear of failure. Over the last 1.5 years, under the guidance of her most patient teacher, she now could recognise her notes and play simple tunes with both her hands.
I intend to let her learn piano at home next year. I found a piano teacher but I feel really bad leaving her current teacher. Alfee is growing up so I need more time with him. I can't afford to travel to and fro Nex for 45 min of piano lesson every week. Initially, I wanted to stop her ballet as well, but I think she needs ballet and her little friends there. And I can't get a ballet teacher home to teach her, so I let her continue with that. For piano, I really hope she can learn from home. That is also why we need a piano now.
With a piano at home, Alfee can start learning piano easily when he is old enough. And perhaps he might be interested earlier than Sophie. We had wanted to go to Yamaha and Chiu Piano at Thomson Plaza to check out the pianos we can consider buying, so we let Ah Boh babysit Sophie. To our horror, pianos are either expensive or from a questionable source. We ended up confused and totally disheartened. We lingered at the drums section and let Alfee beat it to his heart's content in the end. Meanwhile, Ah Boh took Sophie there to meet us for dinner.
It was great that Uncle Simon and his family joined us for dinner at Pizza Hut. The kids were always eager to meet up. Sophie even reserved the seat next to her for Amanda... Not that they sat for that long...
And thus our extended family had a good time over dinner even though it was impromptu. It was indeed a heartwarming sight to see everyone together when it wasn't even a holiday or any special occasion.
