Day 2 and it already felt like Week 2. With both kids around all the time, I really need a lot of energy and a lot more patience. I tried to do activities that both of them can participate and coach Sophie separately if I still had energy left before she goes to bed.
We did a colour separation experiment before lunch, using coffee filter paper and some water based markers. Personally, I have never tried such experiments before but I thought it was simple enough. Yet, it wasn't as simple as I had imagined. The stubborn colours just wouldn't separate! No matter how much water I add to the ink, the pigments stayed.
In the end, we pretty much just treated the whole experiment as an art session. We created batik-like coffee filter papers. Even though our experiment failed, I still explained to Sophie what we should actually observe.
Then of course, I made some bookmarks for the kids with their faces on them. Although really trivial, they loved the little 'Sophie' and 'Alfee' I had drawn for them. And I gave the kids seat work after that although Alfee only managed to doodle and disturb his sister.
After all the hard work (me), I decided to take the kids to the playground and take a breather myself. However, the hot afternoon sun heated the surfaces of the playground features so it was near impossible to play. So, I had no choice but to take them to the ball room. They really had a ball there... My ears were still ringing from their screams and senseless chatter.
Still, it was wonderful to see that they play together and share a bond that nothing can quite compare. Of course they bicker and drive each other up the wall, but they also love each other. They look for each other for support and fun. Alfee would always ask me where Sophie is when he wakes up in the morning. And Sophie would always look out for him in school. I love that.
