I have seen many ways of creating the letter "A", but ultimately I chose the one I saw from No Time For Flash Cards because the alligator is really cute and Sophie can identify with it in her readers. Also, I do not want the letter to look too neat and precise as the purpose is always for Sophie to love and learn it. So... that is why we have been having cereal for breakfast. The letter was cut from a cereal box (freehand) and pasted on construction paper.
While I was gathering all the art materials, I let Sophie doodle with the markers. Although she still did not keep her doodling confined to the drawing paper, her strokes were much bolder indicating her confidence in using the markers as a tool for scribbling.
After Sophie finished her work on the letter "A", I pasted it on a brown construction paper and squeezed a generous amount of glue over the areas for its teeth and eyes etc. Then I helped Sophie as she placed the pieces on the "alligator" and rubbed the glitter glue all over.
