Letter Of The Week - "b" For belt

I thought long and hard for a word that begins with "b"m other than "bee", "beetle", "ball" and "boot". And I ended up with "belt" which was relatively easy to make and very recognisable. As usual, I used the cereal box to cut out the shape of "b" and added the buckle (covered with aluminium foil). I almost wanted to punch holes on the belt but I changed my mind because it could be potentially troublesome.

Although this was a simple craft, it took a long time for Sophie to make it look like a belt. She has to essentially "overdraw" and "overpaint" the surface so that it looks thick and velvety. I love to see how she played around with the markers. She was not just following my instructions to draw, she was experienting and learning how markers work.

I realised that the markers were not good enough, so I got Sophie to dot paint on it as well. Even then, I was still a little unhappy about it, so I gave her glitter glue and that pretty much did the job! After "b" was completed, I had to finish it up and make it into a "belt" for her so I let her paint on newspaper (cheaper - free actually) to kill time.

When the "b" was drying, I washed Sophie up and showed her Papa's belt. She was actually quite intrigued that the two look alike. I tested Ah Mah later on and fortunately, she could tell that it was a belt... Phew!

End Product - "b" For belt
