Mama's Birthday

Mama is 33 years old today. I guess I need to declare it to fully absorb the reality that I am no longer as young or carefree as before. I am currently working on my CV (more like rushing) and trying my luck for an opening in coaching. If successful, I would have to go through yet another round of studying for half a year or so before I can start working part-time. Hope all things go well... That would be my birthday wish... among other things.

Papa has successfully surprised me (rarely possible) with an amazingly elaborated plan. He started by telling me a few days in advance that he would not be able to celebrate my birthday because he was on course for the whole day till late at night. Before I could probe about the inhumane working hours of his company, he added (sounding a bit worried) that HR was involved and they might be announcing some new restructuring in the organization. And that made me a little anxious, too anxious to think about my own birthday.

Then this morning, Papa woke up early as usual and took care of Sophie's breakfast. He briefly apologised again, and promised to celebrate my birthday on the weekends. Then, he got himself ready (like any other work day) and "left" for work. In reality, Papa was collecting my birthday cake and doing grocery shopping at NTUC. Still grouchy about my dull birthday, I went on with Sophie's routine care. An hour or so later, I decided to give myself a break and watch some Sesame Street with Sophie (extra TV time). Meanwhile, Papa was hiding outside and waiting for us to go to the room so that he could sneak in with the cake and all.

Finally, we ended TV time and went into the room for spong art. It was then Papa came in and set up the cake (apparently very quietly). When he was ready, he called me on the cell phone and asked me to go to the living room to look for a file for him. Now, I am usually quite alert to tricks and surprises but Papa sounded very convincing. SO... I was conned, and very surprised, of course to see the cake on our dinning table. Papa has taken leave to celebrate Mama's birthday!

Everything was good after that... too perfect to last unfortunately. Before the day was done, I found a lizard (actually, it jumped out from nowhere) just inches from my pillow. Before I could do much, I saw another in my kitchen. I killed the latter, but we lost the one in our bedroom. Sigh...
