Today Alfee was invited to a classmate's birthday party so I told Papa to take him. Meanwhile, I took Sophie out shopping. I asked her where she would like to go and she suggested Marina Square. I was pretty sure it was the playground she meant. An indoor, air conditioned playground is like a heaven's gift to kids aversive to heat and mess.
We took a shuttle bus to the train station and headed for City Hall after a 10 minute yet fruitless wait for a cab. We talked about train stations and how to read signs along the way. She seemed quite alright to ride the public transport.
Our first stop was Sakae Sushi for lunch. It wasn't my first choice usually but it was relatively empty. As it turns out, she quite enjoyed the food. I'm sure it's got something to do with the mango pudding. Or perhaps she was just in a good mood.
After lunch, we proceeded to our destination. However, Sophie was attracted by the bling bling along the wat. She lingered there for quite a while before she got attracted by the aroma of freshly popped popcorn.
By the time we reached Marina Square, Papa was ready to pick us up with Alfee. I let Sophie play at the playground, as promised, while waiting for the reunion. They didn't come until an hour plus later. Alfee fell asleep in the car. So we carried on with shopping. We bought Sophie's costume for T & T, new Cat In The Hat DVDs and some hair accessory toy. Almost in shock that we didn't buy any books.
When Papa and Alfee came to fetch us, I was more than ready to go. Sophie, who's always tired and reluctant to exercise, could walk and play for 3 hours today. Perhaps that's what retail therapy is all about... it treats sluggishness in little girls.
Alfee had fun at the party apparently, he was holding a ninja cookie and waving enthusiastically at us in the car. There was also a caricature done for both Papa and him. Based on the success of today's division of labour, we concluded that we should spend one-to-one time with the kids every alternate Saturdays. Next week, I will take Alfee and Sophie will follow her daddy from 11 am -3 pm.
