Letter Of The Week - "k" For key

I found a nice picture of an old key and duplicated it for Sophie's "k" for key today. I never knew "k" could be so hard to draw proportionally. I glued the pieces of the "key" beforehand so that Sophie did not have to handle small pieces of cardboard. Then I outlined it with black marker so that it would stand out against the letter.

Once all those were done, I gathered all my art materials and set Sophie on her highchair for her "messy" time! I was hoping that we could keep the scale down today... after all, both of us were not in our best state.

The moment I set the markers in front of Sophie, I knew she had something else in mind. Usually, I put the markers lying down in a drawer for her but today, I left them standing up in a plastic container. Instantly, the image of "Art Time" came to my mind as she very carefully picked out the markers one at a time. Notice how little she used them? She was actually PRETENDING to be one of those children in "Art Time"! They are usually filmed taking markers (one at a time) from a pencil holder to draw on a piece of paper.

When she was all done with her pretend play, Sophie became more interested in the markers and drawing. Look at how hard my little finger tried to encourage her to apply colours and how she simply ignored me! In the end, she got frustrated and chided me... Funny baby!

Clearly I was misunderstood. I assumed Sophie knew how to apply glitter glue because I would usually squeeze it out for her and she would "rub" to spread it. Apparently, I forgot she also "rubs" when the teachers at Kinderland put liquid handwash on her palms before they were rinsed under the tap. Thus, she is utterly confused and quite reluctant when I told her to "rub"...

Finally, we were done with the "key" and the letter "k". I had to do quite a bit of touch-up so that the "key" would stand out against the letter "k". Not pretty, but it was done.

End Product - "k" for key
