So far, we have done all the easy letters that can represented by common animals and things. It is quite difficult to think of an animal that begins with "P" and can be drawn to fit into the letter. I was considering "Pig" but I want to reserve it for Friday (face mask). So, I picked a picture of a puffin I found in a book and copied it onto a cardboard. I decided to let Sophie work on the letter only because it would be really hard for her to make the bird.
Cutting a hole in the middle was a bit tough especially with my old, blunt penknife. To make it even more challenging, the hole on the puffin must be aligned with the one on the letter. Fortunately, I did this part last night so Sophie was spared the waiting and frustration.
It was interesting to see Sophie finally "paint" with her paint bottle and not just "hammer" with it. Also, she was actually rolling the bottle as if it was Playdoh or a rolling pin! And when she was done with all that, she decided she would then make finger prints to finish it off. I am so happy to that she used the art tools and paint spontaneously as if she was experimenting with them.
Again, I observed that sometimes, Sophie would hold the cotton bud like the way we hold a pencil or a pen. I do not know if it was a sign that she was ready for writing or she was merely mimicking us. One thing for sure - she loved painting on everything else except on the letter "P"!
Papa took over the camera so that I could "gently urge" her to complete her task, but I gave up trying! I just let her do whatever she wanted...
Sometimes I think Sophie could probably create interesting art pieces if I left her alone with the art materials long enough. Sure it would get messy and cleaning up would be painful for me, but I guess she needed time to experiment with the materials and then use them the way she deemed fit.
