Sensory Bottle (Lava Lamp)

I wanted to make Sophie sensory bottles for the longest time but because I have never made anything like that before, I was not exactly sure how. A couple of days back, I found my hot glue gun when I was clearing my art cupboard and found it still functional. There was a brief internal struggle to whether I should actually keep it (have not used it for 5 years). Fortunately, I decided to keep it for the sake of making sock puppets.

Apparently, it can also be used to seal the bottle cap before securing it with tape. I had to make sure it would be absolutely mess-free. I used this as a trial session... I did not have food colouring so I used Sophie's paint. Also, I only had half a cup of expired olive oil (don't ask!) so I used it instead of mineral oil (what's that?). I probably should have left some room in the bottle instead of filling it to the brim (mental note). All in all, I think it was a good try and Sophie seemed to like playing with it. I am going to start collecting bottles and materials for more to come...

I found a link for different types of sensory bottles. For people like me who has NEVER seen, played or made a sensory bottle as a child, this is a good start. Although it does not tell you how to make them, it gives me an idea what can be done. I shall try some out and post them once I clear up some workspace for Sophie to play with sensory bottles.
