So far, Sophie is not at all sure about her numbers or counting. And I know she is struggling to make sense of it all. We do not have a chart that shows numbers 1 – 10 with corresponding pictures. And I do not like those sold commercially because they tend to be too complicated or fancy. Thus, I made her a number book based on one of her favourite books “Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?” by Bill Martin Jr. I thought she might be able to learn better when the pictures are familiar to her.
It took me a while to complete it. I had to painstakingly draw and cut the numbers from sandpaper before pasting them onto the scrapbook. Then I took pictures of the animals in the book, printed them on photo paper, cut and pasted them onto the scrapbook. But it was all good as Sophie likes the book especially the sandpaper numbers. I think if we read the book together often enough, she might just grasp the concept of numbers and counting.
