Friday - Painting Lines

I wasn't as conscientious with Alfee as with Sophie when she was his age. He has got a lot more free play time and companionship, but less art & craft time and reading. As a result, he's really still not too good with his basic concepts and fine motor skills.

Today, I tried to let him practice painting and drawing just lines. It was really hard for him to sit and focus. His attention span was 20-30 seconds. He also preferred painting his own kind of lines even though we tried drawing with a variety of colours. Despite all, he was able to create a nice picture. We shall attempt lines again.

Alfee often observes and learn by imitation. So, it's really great sometimes because we don't have to consciously think of what to teach him. Sophie, however, learns better given her own space and time. She doesn't imitate, she observes and learn when she doesn't feel judged or conscious. Sophie likes to take ownership of her own learning.

I let Alfee help with the washing of all the painting materials. We haven't really touched them since last December so the paint has dried and hardened. After all the hard work and soothing sounds of water, Alfee was soon tired. He managed to eat most of his lunch before falling asleep.
