Space...

We were doing art again today. This time we used soft pastels over black construction paper to simulate  the dark space. I got the kids to draw some terrains before pasting stickers of astronauts, spaceships, rockets and aliens all over.

To me, this is an excellent way to get young children to create an artistic scene without the stress of drawing. Sometimes, they might want to draw certain things but lack the skills to do it right. For Sophie, she feels disappointed and occasionally she would give up or become very conscious of her work. Using stickers takes that concern away and she's able to let her creativity flow better.

I think the glitter paint makes the picture even more space-like. Both kids love painting. I think it's a liberating feeling, to a certain extent. Alfee, as usual, was a lot less inhibited in his work although he lacks the fine motor skills that Sophie has.

Call me bias... I like Alfee's work more because it's more spontaneous. Sophie used to be more candid with her art but nowadays she tries too hard to be perfect. Her work looks very controlled, like she's trying to follow rules that don't really exist...
