Every morning after Sophie and Papa head for school, I try to take the little man out for a stroll in our neighbourhood. He enjoys the different sights, sounds and smells of the bustling hawker scene in the morning. The energy and vibes are contagious. It reminds me that there is a busy world outside our little haven and we are a part of that.
Back at our haven (actually our rental), Alfee had his usual milk and some Wiggles and Play School time before we started our Art & Craft session. I wanted to do something simple because Alfee's attention span is very short and all my art goodies are still stashed away in boxes. So we tried making some Olympic Medals from No Time For Flash Cards. Personally I have never been a fan for sports or the Olympics 2012, but I do feel some level of excitement when Papa watches some of the events.
pasting confetti bits on the paper plate cut-out... |
I cut out the centre of some small paper plates and rubbed some stick glue over the surface for Alfee to paste the confetti bits. He enjoyed the process but he soon grew impatient and started scattering the bits everywhere... Then I gave him some golden stickers and that helped a little in bringing him back on task. By the time he was done with the second medal, he had had enough and started running around like an Olympic athlete.
glitter glue is yucky... |
When I introduced glitter glue, Alfee was excited once more. However, he was horrified when I made him rub the glitter glue all over the medal. His little face crumpled into a serious scowl and he literally took off to the toilet to get his hands washed. He really hates the sticky feel on his hand.
3 variations of the Olympic Medals... |
I searched everywhere and this pathetic piece of ribbon was all I could find. With much reluctance, I attached it to one of his medals and declared him a champion! Tonight, I will let Sophie have a go at making the medals and the Olympic Rings. Hopefully we would taste a bit more of success then.
Alfee, The Champ |
Alfee is clearly more into music than art even though he still enjoys drawing and making things. He seems to have a natural groove and his sense of rhythm is pretty good as well. It almost always tickles me when he tries to turn on the CD player himself and dance to the music.
Occasionally, this little man would also impress me with his level of understanding, keen observation and sense of humour. Such a joy to spend time with him...
