I was sad to learn that some children, at Primary Two, are still very poor readers. I don't know their academic ability but Sophie is reading better than them. They can't decode words, don't recognize sight words and lack vocabulary to help them associate words to concrete objects or abstract concepts, feelings or ideas.
They need structured programme to build their vocabulary and decode words. They need real books and not readers to arouse their interest in reading and hold their attention. So sorry that I doubt the existing programme I'm involved in, can help them much.
Time for change... I'll bring my own books next week.
