"Courtesy is for free... Courtesy is for you and me... "
I don't know if anyone remembers our Courtesy Campaign probably 20-30 years ago? But I always think about it and the iconic mascot (all of us had to draw and paint it) when I meet rude, thoughtless or plain ignorant youngsters. Are they never brought up to be civic minded? Don't they know the world doesn't revolve around them?
A simple example... We were at an ice cream Cafe. When we arrived, no one was around so I put my bag on the seat (one of those long cushioned bench). Then a young couple came and sat beside us. Thinking that they might be obstructed by my bag, I removed it and placed it on the floor.
So now our 'neighbours' had more space... so much space that they put their bike helmet on the seat (same spot) to obstruct me! Of course they could be too busy engaging in couple activities to notice their surrounding...
Haiz... what is happening to our kids??!! Maybe I should compile a list of civic behaviours for my kids to learn...
