I have been quite a slacker with Alfee's education. I always think boys mature later so I should let him play and start teaching him when he's ready. Also, I learnt from parenting Sophie that sometimes, it's better not to direct teach anything. Sophie was taught the Alphabet from 15 months and she was able to recognise and name the letters as young as 18 months. Alfee still can only name a few letters now. However, he does show better interest and ability in numbers.
For Alfee, he's too playful to stay focus on any task. I started him with 0, 1, 2, and 3, placing corresponding number of stones, plastic seahorses and stars at each numeral. Of course he couldn't quite grasp the counting part yet. I merely want to establish some teaching-learning routine. Then we tried arranging the numbers in order. He got as far as '4' before he started playing with the number cards. It's alright really. In fact, he went back to arrange the cards a few hours later. I left the cards within his reach so that he could look at them anytime he likes.
