Move Back Already!

Little Sleeping Beauty in her pink room...
Little Prince Charming on training to sleep alone...
It's been a week since we moved back, yet we still have so many boxes to clear and some rectification works to be done. Although we were very frustrated by all the defects and problems in our newly renovated place, we are definitely very happy to be back home at last! It was a long 3 months of rental and we really miss our place. And despite my endless complaints, the renovation company did a decent job for us. There's no such thing as perfection in a house and we recognize that. Hopefully, we would be able to clear everything in two weeks...

The fan in the study room is one of the most problematic issue we faced but we managed to forced a solution out of our little reno brains. At first, it was installed too near our in-built cabinet and we couldn't shift it. Apparently, there was a beam and that restricted the position of our ceiling fan. Also, the cabinet has been custom made with swing door so we couldn't change it to a sliding door. Thus, my dad and I came up with a way to prevent the blades from hitting the door of our cabinet. We switched the opening sides of the cabinet and added a latch. It wasn't perfect but functional.

Fan Rectification Project
Then, the fan guy came to change the balancing of our fans and told me the motor has been installed inside the false ceiling and future repairs would involve cutting a hole in my false ceiling. Okay, that meant it wasn't installed properly. Again, we called in the renovation guys to rectify the problem. However, the false ceiling is low so we can't lengthen the fan to expose the motor. We have to think of an alternative without hacking away the entire false ceiling. We thought long and hard before we suggested to create a recess into the false ceiling to accommodate the motor of the fan. By then, it was apparent that the fan could be shifted away from my cabinet. Therefore, the plan was to shift it and create a recess.

All well and good until the electrician left the wires outside and exposed for the ceiling guy when he came to fix the ceiling. He told us he couldn't possibly cover the wires so we need the electrician back to drill a canal in the beam for the wires. So, off he went and a few hours later, the electrician came with a drill. After he was done (finally), the ceiling guy came a few hours later and fixed the recess. The next day, the painter came to do touch up and that was the end of our ceiling fan episode. Well, we still to get the fan guy to come and check the fan but I think the rest would be pretty minor.

The kids, of course, do not have a care for the insanity of renovation works. However, I'm pretty sure Sophie felt my stress. She's well too empathetic and sensitive for her own good. Even though I set up their rooms first, I couldn't protect them from our stress. I can't even protect myself against stress. On one night, I dozed off for 2 hours, beside Alfee, without my night guard and ended up with a jagged canine and a slight chip off my front tooth. That is how stressed I am...
