Mid-Autumn Festival @ Cherrybrook Kindergarten

Annual Mid-Autumn Festival... Lovely reason to spend time with our family members, but great excuse for kids to play with fire, candles and sparklers... At least kids from my generation. This year, I didn't buy any lanterns for the kids, thinking that it would be a complete waste of money since we hardly celebrate and they sleep before sunset anyway.

Well, we were invited to Mid-Autumn Festival Night organised by Cherrybrook Kindergarten. At first, I thought of not going. I'm really not much of a people-person. But Sophie was very enthusiastic and she was all geared up for it. I relented. Then she asked where her lanterns were! She even describe her lanterns last year... the same ones I trashed just before the renovations! So, I panicked and got Gong Gong to buy two simple ones for the kids... And VOLA! Angry Bird Lanterns!!!

Anyway, we arrived an hour late, partly due to the silly fire engine ride-on and partly due to bad traffic. I was surprised that almost everyone turned up. We were immediately whisked into the gym to make mooncakes and then paper lanterns. I love the way the teachers all sat in a row while children approached them to make mooncakes. The process was quick and orderly.

Even Alfee made a lantern. Auntie Rose made with him, of course. She had to help me watch Alfee because I don't operate very well in the dark.

Before the kids were released into the night with their assortment of lanterns, they were gathered for a little video clip on legends and stories associated with Mid-Autumn Festival. After that, the kids went to the big garden and walked around (ran mostly) with their lanterns. Although it was a mere hour, Sophie and Alfee had a lot of fun. In fact, I had to literally grab Sophie and usher her to the car.
