Sophie likes Australia, Sidney in particular because of our last holiday. However, I got pretty confused when she kept mentioning Australasia last term. I admit, I'm terrible with Geography or anything that requires the spatial part of my brain. So, I did a bit of search in Google and found out that Australasia is actually a region of Oceania (a region centered on the islands of tropical Pacific Ocean). It comprises of Australia, New Zealand, the isalnd of New Guinea and neighbouring islands of the Pacific Ocean. She probably didn't draw the map, she merely labelled it. How she got so interested in this, I do not know, but I'm glad she knows more than me now.
Another piece of work, which is much less brain taxing for me. It's a little train made of sponge, cardboard and toothpicks (tracks). I thought it was a simple yet clever craft. She did it during her Chinese enrichment class in school, learning all the vocabulary associated with trains and tracks. I asked her what else she had learnt and she started telling me about tires and wheels... it got me all tickled pink...
Me : Bananas? No lah... sure or not?
Sophie : Yes! 刘老师said so!
Me : Is it? ( Why wld she say that? She looks like a respectable tr...)
Sophie : Yes, she said tires are made of '香蕉'!
Me : Oh... u heard wrongly lah! She said '橡胶' not '香蕉'! Okay... here's how.... (explanation)
