Investing in a 32-inch TV and putting it in the playroom is a way we try to control their TV time. First of all, it allows us to make TV time a privilege. The kids get to watch only after dinner, for instance, so the one who finishes first gets to go in and start watching TV earlier. Also, one can be made very aware that the privilege has been removed with this arrangement, without depriving the other. Another advantage is that the kids get very distracted by the toys in the playroom so they cut down their TV time on their own. Sometimes, they also find it harder to stay in the room for too long. The sofa and living room is much more comfortable. And of course, the TV can only be used to play DVDs and it cannot receive any TV channels. It helps because I really loathe commercials and trailers.
That's good. You can control the tv watching time and what they watch.
ReplyDeleteYalor, I often find the TV programmes ok but the commercials and trailers are really bad influence on the kids. Also, they will fight with Papa for the TV lah... so this is the best arrangement... everyone happy! hahaha
